Taiwanese stand-up comedian Brian Tseng used his personal experience to joke about the definition of rape, partners harassing each other, the fact that male rape victims are usually given less attention, and other issues during one of his sets. He then tried to clarify the meaning of the first half of his set online and thus keep the focus of discussion on the comments he made in which heterosexual men should encourage women to rape men. After this and following the attention and discussion that this claim attracted, Brian then stated that he himself was a victim of sexual assault the following day. This comment led to even more intense discussion, among which the primary topics were male assault survivors, whether assault can be used for performance material, and societal stereotypes of assault survivors (such as psychologically damaged people and those who come from marginalised groups in society).
