Teng Ru-Wen Trial and Domestic Violence Prevention Act

Suffering from long-term domestic violence and the fact that she and her sister were repeatedly raped by her husband, Teng Ru-Wen couldn't stand it and killed her husband. In the trial, many women's rights NGOs supported her case. In the end, she was sentenced 3 years in prison. Her case catalyzied the Congress to pass the Domestic Violence Prevention Act on June 24, 1998, the first such law in Asia.
